The homeowners of this 1.5 Story Minneapolis Bungalow planned this remodel in their minds 20 years ago. When they decided to remodel, they chose New Spaces because of our reputation of functional thinking, high- performance and decades of experience working on mid-century Minneapolis builds like theirs. In this kitchen’s past life, there was a lack of natural light flow, cooking space and storage to accompany the family’s growing family. Lacking a proper dining space, this home didn’t stand the test of time, especially as it morphed to be a multigenerational living arrangement. This newly added white quartz countertop, enriched with gray veins, is where their grandchildren today sit and watch as their mom cooks dinner, coloring new creations that will soon be hung on this state-of-the-art double-door fridge that now fits lunchboxes and more. Custom-colored, the gray-painted lower cabinetry was just the twist of color that the family wanted, not too loud and not too bland. Matte black finishes surround the space, and a touch-powered faucet shouts practicality.

New Spaces was founded by Doug and Carol Nelson in 1980. Today, the family tradition continues with the second-generation Nelson – President Shawn Nelson. New Spaces is as a leading full-service design build firm serving the entire metro area. New Spaces is the 2006 Better Business Bureau Integrity Award Winner, 2022 CotY National and Regional Award Winner, 2023 CotY Regional Winner, and Chrysalis Award Winner. President Shawn Nelson has served our Twin Cities remodeling & building industry for two decades, as the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) President in 2014, and as a Life Director for The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Shawn currently serves as a city council member for the City of Bloomington and as a board member for the Burnsville & Bloomington Chambers of Commerce and Housing First Minnesota.

New Spaces are thrilled to announce that New Spaces has been named NARI’s Region 3 North Central 2023 Regional CotY Winner for Entire House Under $250,000 for this Minnetonka Rambler renovation.

Winning a CotY Award is a distinguished honor. NARI received over 450 entries valued at over $135 million, and this New Spaces project stood out as the best in the Entire House Under $250,000 category.

Thank you to NARI for this award. New Spaces could not be more excited to share this news with the New Spaces community.

New Spaces are currently looking for individuals to join our design, production and general team.
